A successful garden will have a wide variety of shrubs, vines, hosta, perennials, vegetables and herbs.  Different colors, textures and blooms will delight the senses; flavors to delight the palate; and don't forget our nature friends that help keep a balance in this place we call - the garden.

When you garden in the north you have to be ready to extend the season any way you can. There are many methods to do this.  Of course the easiest, most enjoyable way is to have a greenhouse.  This is not necessarily the least expensive, for warm weather crops you have to be prepared to heat the greenhouse in the winter and vent the hot air in the summer.  Here we have many varieties of tomatoes growing, seedlings started and flowering hanging plants.  When growing in an area that has short seasons, many warm weather crops and flowering plants would not reach maturity if it weren't for the season extension provided by a greenhouse environment.  To see our tomato offerings please visit the tomato page.

We also have first hand experience growing horseradish and rhubarb. You can find growing information for these here.

Greenhouse growing allows you to grow warm weather crops in an area that has short seasons.

Flowering hanging plants get a head start in a greenhouse.

Hostas originally come from China and Japan. They like the shade in moist organic soil, but many will tolerate a wide variety of conditions.  They are grown for their fantastic foliage and many have lovely, fragrant blooms.
Hosta choices abound in size, shape, leaf patterns, colors, and flowers.
